About Us

U3As are voluntary groups that provide educational, recreational and social programs for people who can best be described as being active in retirement or semi-retirement.

U3A Mallacoota

U3A Mallacoota was established for people in the district of Mallacoota, Genoa, Gipsy Point and the surrounding localities.  Our mission is to provide opportunities for residents and visitors to learn, teach, share and to give mutual support to each other in a friendly and warm environment, regardless or ethnicity, religion, ability or disability.

U3A Mallacoota is about lifelong learning. It is learning not associated with school or work.  There are no examinations, no marks, no deadlines. It is learning about things that we choose or things that simply tickle our fancy. It is learning in a happy, social, and supportive environment.  It is made possible by people just like you sharing their knowledge and experience.  So, if there is a subject you always wanted to know more about, or an interest you would like to share with others then we would love to hear from you.

U3A Mallacoota:

  • Holds regular presentations at the Mallacoota Community Clubrooms, usually at 2pm on the first Friday of the month.
  • Hosts weekly afternoon tea with discussion of any current events in Australia or overseas that attendees would like to discuss.  These discussions are held at 3pm on Tuesdays during the school term in the church meeting room on Allan Drive.
  • Hosts weekly Mah-jong sessions on Wednesday afternoons.
  • Holds regular astronomy sessions, taking advantage of the region’s exceptionally dark skies.
  • Publishes a bi-monthly newsletter which is emailed to members.  The newsletter includes details on upcoming events and articles on a range of topics which might interest community members.
  • Collaborates with a range of other Mallacoota community groups to present workshops and events of interest to our community members.

Who can join?

Our presentations, discussions and events are open to members and non-members alike of any age.  The only criteria are an interest in expanding knowledge in existing areas and exploring new fields and activities.
